Many countries (and members oftheir press media) have marvelledat Sweden’s relaxed strategy in theface of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic: schools andmost workplaces have remained open,and police officers were not checkingone’s errands in the street. Severecritics have described it as Swedensacrificing its (elderly) citizens toquickly reach herd immunity.1 Thedeath toll has surpassed our threeclosest neighbours, Denmark, Norway,and Finland, but the mortality remainslower than in the UK, Spain, andBelgium.2
